 Behr was founded in 1948 by Otto Behr Jr., he started the company by manufacturing product in his garage and selling stains and varnishes out of the back of his woody station wagon in Santa Ana, Ca. From there he started manufacturing paints for his business partners Bernie Mac and Arthur Blank the founders of Home Depot. Behr started as the premium paint supplier to Home Depot and grew to a multimillion-dollar company servicing Home Depot and small mom and pop hardware stores around the West Coast. In 1988 we invented the color matching system and unveiled it to Home Depot, revolutionizing and reimaging the painting industry. In 1999 Behr was purchased by Masco Corporation who owns dozens of home improvement companies and quickly became a billion-dollar business. In 2011 we made a larger push for the pro customer and our business has continued to grow from there. We have added over 200+ pro representatives, architect reps and business development reps to the pro side of the business and are excited to grow this business further.
